President’s Message

I’d like to begin by recognizing Don Schwinn, Sgt/Maj Murray, George Neville, Chris Stathopoulas, and the many others that contributed to making our reunion in San Diego this year a great success. It’s always a special time for all of us to share our camaraderie and the opportunity to commemorate the difficult circumstances that brought us together all those years ago and to remember and reflect on those we lost in Vietnam and   those who have left us since. I know we all have bittersweet memories of those times that bind us but they are times we'll always remember and memories of past Marines that we will always cherish. Those of you that weren’t able to make it, know that you were missed and we hope to see you next year.

2017 was an excellent year financially for our Assn. Don's Treasury report will validate our excellent financial health due to the contributions received from the membership. The report will show we were able to assist our membership that have faced difficult circumstances in their lives due to issues of natural disaster or financial hardship. I am proud to say that it is who we are and what we are according to the sacred oath we swore to each other 50+ years ago! We have each others backs until our time is up.

The discussion of next year's Reunion was discussed at length and the motion to rejoin the Battalion Association in San Antonio was approved unanimously.

The Reunion is scheduled for Sept 25-30, 2018 with details to be forthcoming.  I know some of us served in other Companies in the Battalion and this will provide an opportunity to renew old acquaintances. It was also recognized that financial constraints also made it difficult to attend two different reunions in the same year. Also this way we resolve the issue conveniently to everyone’s benefit. I look forward to seeing everyone there!

In closing, I will repeat the same standing order that we all should do our best to follow, set aside a moment every month to give a Recon Teammate or member a call to check in and see how they are doing. The years are passing faster than we like so let's stay in touch between the Reunions. I wish everyone a wonderful, safe Christmas Season and Happy New Year.

Semper Fidelis Marines
